About Us

IndigoStar Miniature Poodles is a small-scale breeder located in North Texas. My dogs are my adored companions and competition partners first. I breed only when all the factors line up for the perfect pairing and the timeline fits in our busy competition schedules. Ethics, integrity, and hard work are the basis of my program.  All of my breeding prospects are health tested to CHIC standards and well beyond. I believe in the importance of accurate up-to-date record keeping: health testing results uploaded to OFA for my breeding dogs and Pedigree Database kept up to date on all IndigoStar dogs. Record keeping not only helps prospective buyers assess dogs and learn, it helps breeders during dog research. My puppy raising philosophy embodies the fundamentals that I believe in, via my extensive puppy raising protocols to set my puppies up for the best foundation for a successful life and career.  I strive to produce greater generations of Performance dogs without losing the type and balance that make up a Poodle. IndigoStar dogs can do it all and as an avid competitor in Performance sports I know what is needed for a performance dog and how important the "full picture" is. 

 

Agility and Scent Work are my passions, and I have also competed in FastCat, Rally, and Obedience. I started competing as a junior handler and carry on the same dreams and passions 12 years later. In 2019, I won the honor of the Third Place Versatility Junior in the AKC. I have competed at both the National and International levels in Agility.  I was on the 2019 AKC EOJ Team USA with Lyra and the 2026 USDAA IFCS Team USA with Flirt. I am a two time Challenger at the AKC National Agility Championship,  four time Finalist at the Cynosport World Games which includes a National Champion title, three podiums and a fourth place, have been on 20 podiums at UKI Classic/UKI Cups/USDAA Regional including Overall Cup Champion and Overall Classic Champion, and have many other top placement finishes in event, speed, and points rankings. Though still new to Scent Work, debuting at the end of 2024, I have earned one High In Trial and 9 titles with my two young IndigoStar girls.

Breeding Age: I personally will not breed a girl before the age of 3 (in most cases). Dog's mature so much from 2-3 years, and into 4 years old. When you wait for them to be completely mentally mature you have the full picture of their personality. By waiting until 3-4 years for the first litter, you have a significant amount of additional information regarding your dog's health, structure, and personality. This not only influences your decision-making as a breeder but allows your girl to be the best dam she can be. Past the vast breeding and whelping positives, there are also positives involving competition and sports. Breeding a 2-year-old sport dog can interrupt a very critical time period for bonding, experiences, training, and trialing. It is best to wait until she is mature and experienced to take a whelping break. My first generation of IndigoStar was born in 2023 and 2024, which means their first litters may be between 2026-2028.
